Every age group likes to paint at the easel. It offers a space

to paint without interruption from others. A space to create

a world of one's own if only for a few minutes.

Pre-K was introduced to a new tool this week.

It was a bamboo pen. I showed them a

large piece of bamboo(4 feet long) and had them guess

what it was. They were all surprised when I told them

that it was a grass. Someone new that though. Such

intelligent children.

We looked at a book about an artist named Hunderwasser.

He was an architect as well as an artist. His paintings

were full of color and line. We then talked about the shapes

in their homes and set out to draw a representational drawing of

their home. This was a bit tricky as they had to dip their pen

into black ink over and over. I told them that this is how people

wrote and drew in the "old days." They are beautiful and sophisticated

renderings of what they think of their home.

The twos love coming to the studio,they just don't want to leave!

They are quite the explorers. They drew with crayon and pemcils due to photo week.

Actually, many children didn't make it due to photos. I will be

anxious to see everyone next week.

Our table was set with beautiful sunflowers. We talked about
its shape. The stem is long and skinny and green. The blossom is
yellow and shaped like a circle. The middle is brown and also a circle. But,
if we look closer, the petals are a triangular shape and there are
many of them. The artists were encouraged to look for more detail.
One artist sketched his whole drawing in black. He left a small corner to
paint yellow. Should I correct that? I don't. It is his vision and he
has control of it. They were all so delightful. Drawing from life takes
patience and practice. What a nice skill for them to have . We will
continue to draw from life through the end of the year.
